A great day to be in the garden...

Ngai and Jan from Bunnings brought in seedlings of Rocket, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Beans, Cucumber, and Silverbeet to plant with us today. We re-visited last weeks discussion about what makes soil healthy, what colour it should be and what worms do for our soil.

Once the gardening aprons and gloves were on, the children enjoyed preparing holes for the seedlings and placing them, ensuring they were supported with soil around there stems.

Over the next week we will learn how to care for them until our next visit from Ngai and Jan in 2 weeks time, Tuesday 14th November when we will introduce some celery. In the meantime if you could collect your egg shells, please bring them into school (rinsed) and we can pop them into a plastic bag and get the children to stomp on them to produce a natural slug repellent :)

So what did our green fingered children experience today? Rich learning experiences, coupled with some fun. Here a just a few....

Responsibility, patience, physical development (fine & gross motor skills), play and inquiry, safe risk taking, building of relationships, bonding, reciprocal learning and relationships, sensory learning, develops maths skills, encourages healthy eating and it's importance, introduces scientific concepts, taking care of our environment (pollution, pesticides, recycling) and many more!

We will encourage the students to present their experience with the class.
